Officer of the Deck this morning was BB.
We left about 9:30 AM and it was amazing how much we had become a team in the past couple of days. We had the main sail up and the jib unfurled in no time. In fact we beat the other boat in accomplishing this for the first time.
Everyone had new jobs to do. It was a hard day for everyone since most were working at jobs that they were very unfamiliar with. So much of the day was a challenge.
It was also very hot again with bright sun. Lots of sun screen and water again.
Officer of the Deck this afternoon was NM.
We continued sailing through lunch today. We had a pretty good wind all day.
We had a close call with a freighter whose path we were crossing and almost tangled with a crab fisherman who Mr. Byam failed to give the right of way to. But we made it to port safely. The other boat of scouts weren’t so lucky. They ran aground near the entrance of the river we were docked on. They had to be pulled from the shallow.
Both NM and BB volunteered to be dragged behind the boat. I think they found that being dragged through the water at 2-3 knots was not as fun as it first seemed.
We docked in Hampton.
After a dinner of rice and beef stew we went to the Virginia Air and Space Museum. We got a personal tour and then went to see “Batman Begins” at the Imax Theater. It was fun and a cool respite from the heat.
After the movie we walked back to our boat and enjoyed each other’s company.
