The day dawned beautifully. It was less humid and cooler with a great wind. We had an awesome day of sailing.
This morning, the Officer of the Deck was NB
We left port about 9:30 AM on our longest day of sailing. The crew consisted of all the scouts on the important jobs. The scouts manned all helm, trimmers, bow and navigator responsibilities and they did a great job.
We had our sails up quickly and efficiently. We had a strong wind and sailed along quickly.
We improved our skills for setting the jib and main sail. We sailed north out of Hampton and averaged about 5 knots all day.
As we passed the Norfolk Naval Shipyards we saw two submarines and another Navy vessel heading out to the Atlantic.
NM decided to ride behind the boat again in the water. We dragged him for about ten minutes until he got tired. Once he was back aboard we had lunch.
This
afternoon, the Officer of the Deck was BB. and the Helmsman was Mr. D.
The winds really picked up in the afternoon and were blowing in the right direction for us to really travel at a fast pace. We reached a high speed of 6.8 knots. We spent most of the afternoon traveling on the starboard side of the boat. Several times water was actually coming over the side onto the deck. It was an incredible day of sailing. All the scouts did their jobs well and worked hard. We docked near the entrance to the York River.
The scouts got to spend some down time in the pool. After a dinner of Chicken Alfredo they watched a DVD on the captain’s computer.
Rain was predicted for the night but the sky remained clear.
