Shabbona Lake State Park

Saturday morning

Wallie Caudill (Wheaton Troop 374 Committee member), Mr. U, and Mr. Klinger all drove out during the day to fish with the troop.  Mr. Klinger is a Fishing Merit Badge Counselor.  During the day he taught the scouts many interesting angling techniques.

For breakfast the scouts chowed down Pita Pockets.

One of the most enjoyable jobs is to operate the KP station.  The station is normally set up at least 50' away from the cooking area, with the ground sloping away from the campsite.  The vantage point from the KP station is normally one of the best.

A few months ago, the committee suggested that we go back to using the campfire to heat up our hot sudsy dish water as opposed to propane. Our clean pans & dishes now seem to have a pleasant aroma of smoked Oak.

The scouts spent the morning learning the knots and safety tips outlined in the Scout Fishing Merit Badge Book. They went down to the south end of the lake for a few hours to test out their newfound knowledge.

For lunch the scouts had beanless chili dogs.
