After breakfast we finished packing and carried all of our belongings off the boat and onto the dock.
Captain Adam made one last walk-through with the Camp Director to make sure the boat was clean and ready for its next crew. We got the okay and carried our gear out to the main road. After a few pictures we all got a cold drink and sat down in the shade to wait for our ride to the airport. To our surprise, it turned out to be a motor coach so we had a very comfortable ride back to Richmond.
We all got lunch at the airport and our flight took off at about 2:15 PM local time. We were back at O‘Hare Airport by 3:15 PM central time. When we reached the terminal we all went our separate ways to catch our rides home. This brought our amazing trip to an end.
This was an incredible trip. We learned a lot about sailing but also about ourselves. Some of us faced fears we have had for along time. Some of us found strength we didn’t know we had, some of us learned we had leadership skills that no one knew we had. We all learned that it’s possible to walk on a moving sailboat that is leaning at 40 degrees with water splashing onto the deck.
We all leaned to respect each other’s skills and became a strong team by the end of the week. We learned to get along with each other in very close quarter s and to support one another.
I’m sure this was a trip we will all remember for a long time.
