It is essential that every Troop 374 Scout aspiring to earn his Eagle Badge be actively involved at meetings, campouts, community service and other troop events.  It is very doubtful that the head coach of any team sport (football, basketball, hockey, baseball, etc) would award "the letter" to an athlete who didn't participate throughout the season.

Besides being actively involved with Troop 374 and completing an Eagle Project, 21 merit badges must be completed before a scout can attain Eagle status.  Twelve of those merit badges are prescribed, while the other nine are electives.  The twelve prescribed merit badges are listed on each scout's personal web page.  The nine electives will be listed as they are completed.

How the Merit Badge Card Process works:

  1. The scout discusses (with one of the troop leaders) which merit badge(s) are being considered.
  2. The troop leader gives the scout a Blue Merit Badge Card.  It needs to be completed with the best possible penmanship.
  3. The scoutmaster signs the card.
  4. The scout purchases (or downloads) the merit badge book. (Deicke Scout Shop sells them for a couple dollars each)
  5. With a Council approved merit badge counselor, the scout completes the tasks outlined in the merit badge book.  Certain merit badges can take months to complete.
  6. When completed, the merit badge counselor signs and keeps 1/3 of the blue card for his records.
  7. The scout submits the remaining 2/3 of the card to one of the troop leaders.
  8. It will be handed in to Mr. Pearson for scanning. He will give them to the Troop 374 Advancement Committee Chairman.  She will record them in the troop archives, present them to Three Fires Council for processing.  Another 1/3 of the blue card is kept in the scout's permanent records.  They then will give her the actual merit badge and the remaining 1/3 of the blue card.
  9. At the next Court of Honor, the scout is presented the Merit Badge with the remaining 1/3 of the blue card.  It is important that the scout keep the remaining 1/3 of those blue cards in a safe place.  At some later date, that scout might to present them at an Eagle Board of Review.
