Mel's 2005

For the third November straight, Troop 374 has ventured up to some beautiful territory situated about 45 miles west of Madison Wisconsin.

(The Troop 374 scouts have already put Mel's on the 2006 schedule.)

On November 7. 2005, Mel called the Webmaster and asked that this message be conveyed:

"Thank you for presenting me with the beautiful U.S. Flag as a Veteran's Day gift.  It was a real pleasure to have you all up here at the farm.  I especially want each of you to know the fact that you all conducted yourselves as total gentlemen the whole time definitely did not go unnoticed.  Your visit was greatly appreciated."

Added note from Mr. Pearson:  Almost everywhere we go, comments are made about the scouts in our troop being total gentlemen.

Similarities to the prior years.

Hiking - Flag Disposal Ceremony - Shotgun and Rifle Shooting - Three scouts earned merit badges.

Because of the shortened days and limited daylight hours, most of the meals had already been prepared.

Differences from the prior years:

The weather.

Getting there ended up being a challenge.  Since none of the "trailer hitch drivers" were able to make the trip, other arrangements had to be made.  One of the parents loaned a large van to the troop for the trip.  Also, committee member Wallie Caudill volunteered to drive.

The photos were taken by Troop 374 Assistant Scoutmasters Mark King and Dan Pearson.
