KJ's Eagle Ceremony
St. John the Baptist in Winfield at 2 PM on Saturday, April 14, 2007
Rehearsal begins at 1 PM
The Ceremony begins at 2 PM. The Honor Guard escorts Eagle Scout KJ into the Sanctuary. The SPL leads the congregation of 56 in the Pledge of Allegiance.
KJ begins to take the oath of the Eagle Scout.
As KJ takes the oath, scouts of many ranks stand up and interrupt the ceremony. They ask for verification as to whether or not KJ has actually achieved all of the requirements needed to earn the Eagle Badge. One by one, satisfactory answers are provided to each challenge.
The oath is complete. Mrs. J pins the badge on KJs left pocket. Mr. Byam removes the Troop 374 neckerchief and Mr. J puts the Eagle neckerchief in place. KJ pins a clip on his mother and father.
Mr. Byam reads over the list of letters the KJ has received from the President to the local mayor.
After KJ receives a standing ovation from the congregation, Mr. Byam spends a few minutes with a heart to heart chat with all of us. We call that the Scoutmaster Minute.
The ceremony concludes and the Colors are retired.
Now it's party time!
The congregation proceeds across to the school to celebrate with KJ.
Many of KJ's scouting archives are on display. 150 photos of KJ's Troop 374 years are shown on computer.
Harriet Spriggs and her team of hostesses put on a very superb reception.
