The Hike

Saturday, April 16th, 2005 turned out to be a perfect day for a hike through Apple River Canyon State Park.  Rather than having one long trail, Apple River Canyon has four shorter trails, varying in difficulty.

After breakfast & KP, the hike began.

Water, Fire and Rock Climbing seem to fascinate our scouts.  Today we had fun with all three.

We first dropped by the Ranger's office to double-check our plans.

An hour later, we then reach a point where a decision had to be made.  Do we head back to a bridge to join the next trail?  Or do we cross the river and pick up the next trail, which was situated right on the other side?

Before we finished deciding, half the scouts were already on the other side of the river.

We immediately picked up the second main trail of the day.  It proved to be more rugged than the first.

But this was absolutely no problem for any of the scouts in Troop 374.

We did it once!  Why not do it again!  We reached another portion of the river.  What are we to do?

Walk back to the bridge, or cross the river again to pick up the third trail of the day?

We then headed back to camp for sandwiches.
