2006 Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul
The troop headed toward Rantoul at 5 PM.
At certain types of events it is the luck of the draw as to where your campsite is located. As luck (or fate) would have it, they wanted Troop 374 to be close to the comforts of home. They situated the troop as near as possible to the Port-o-Johns, under the bright lights (the high beam floodlights)
After setting up camp, the troop headed over to the food court where most chowed down some pizza, then eventually headed to bed.
Saturday morning the troop woke up to a beautiful day. Breakfast was served at the campsite. Some scouts decided to have additional pizza before heading to the buses, while others decided to wait and try out the hot dogs at Memorial Stadium. At the conclusion of the National Anthem, choppers flew over the stadium.
Unfortunately, it was not the best of days for the U of I football team, so near the conclusion of the game the troop decided to board the buses and head back to the Chanute Air Force Base.
There the scouts participated in the festivities that set up there by the council. For dinner the scouts headed back to the food court for another dose of pizza, then headed back to the campsite to relax and watch the fireworks.
They were "up & at 'em" first thing Sunday morning. They were back in Wheaton by 11 AM
This was the fourth year that Troop 374 participated in this event. The SPL and ASPL and the other scouts decided to book a different type of event for September 2007.
Thanks to Mr. Maude for photographing this event.
