Eagle Project.  October 30, 2004

Today was a major day for BB in his scouting journey.  After attaining the title of Life Scout, he was elected to Order of the Arrow and today was the major work day for his Eagle Project.

At 8 AM, scouts and a few parents converged on a large area located in the NE quadrant of the College of the DuPage grounds in Glen Ellyn.  Until today, this area was very dense with "junk" vegetation, including heavy thorn bushes.  The goal was to take back the area and start the process of returning it to the original splendor.  It will someday look like an Illinois prairie, making the College of DuPage grounds look much more beautiful.

The early morning sky was clear blue.  It was about 55 degrees and the wind was gusting to 40 MPH.  Assistant Scoutmaster Diane B. had prepared a coffee & hot chocolate and sweet roll station for break-time.  Notice how dense the foliage was early in the day.  Troop 374 committee member Pat C. stopped by to see how things were progressing and to help out.

Early in the day, the volunteers start to put a dent in to thick undergrowth.

Toward midday, the thinning out is very apparent.

Yet later in the day, the area appears to be in much better shape.  Shown below is one small corner.

Fortunately, the time change occurred tonight.  Those who worked on project today needed the extra rest after a long day of hard work
